History |
First established in
1958, NUS Architecture is still the only architecture
school in Singapore. Its history began at the Singapore
Polytechnic. In June 2000 it was reorganised from the
School of Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture,
Building and Real Estate into the Department of
Architecture of the School of Design and Environment (SDE).
The Department celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 1998. |

Mission |
|
The mission of the
Department is "To foster a creative and intellectually
vibrant environment with a global outlook that would
establish design and professional excellence in New
Asian Tropical Architecture". |

Alumni |
The Department is
proud to have produced many highly successful alumni who
have been instrumental in nation building since the 60s.
To formally recognise the pioneer alumni, the Department
made its first Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999.
The Architecture Alumni Association (AAA) was formed in
1998. Its founding President is Mr. Chan Fook Pong, and
the current President is Mr. Goh Peng Thong.
Thanks to the generosity of alumni, staff and friends,
the Department was among the first in the University to
establish its own Architecture Endowment Fund.

Organisation Structure |
The Department is
managed by the Head of Department, a Deputy Head for
Academic Development, a Deputy Head for Administration
and Finance and a Deputy Head for Research. In addition,
it has a Research Director for the Centre for Advanced
Studies in Architecture (CASA).
Academic and research staff of the Department are
organised into 3 Teaching and Research groups.
The Department also has a Professional Consultative
Committee (PCC), Chaired by Mr. Raymond Woo.
The Ong Siew May Professorship in Architecture is the
first endowed chair professorship established in the
Department.
