PhD candidate, Mr Mahyar Masoudi has won the “Best Student Oral Presentation” at the Second Congress of the Society for Urban Ecology held in Shanghai, 8-10 July 2016.
This is for his presentation: “Masoudi, M. and Tan, P.Y. (2016). The effects of land use on the relationships between spatial pattern of urban green spaces and land surface temperature in a tropical compact city”.

Two students won 2nd & 3rd Prize in the KMSPKS (Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery) Design Competition for an innovative structure to shelter devotees to the temple's Hall of Compassion.

International Architecture Competition
Rome Concrete Poetry Hall, Honorable Mention
Kyra Swee Yew Yong and Stephan Shen Yizhe
A design produced by two NUS students; Kyra Swee Yew Yong and Stephan Shen Yizhe were selected for one of the Honorable Mentions in International Architecture Competition: Rome Concrete Poetry Hall. Held by Bee Breeders, the competition invited visionary works that “cast their own imagination in the formation of a multipurpose concrete building in historic Rome”, and selected winners for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Prize and 6 Honorable Mentions. Focusing on “structure, rhythm and aesthetics” of architecture in Rome, the project proposed an elegant and poetic architecture that emphasizes “columns, arcs and domes”.

Congratulations to the twenty-two NUS Architecture students for receiving the 11th NUS Student Achievement Awards 2016 Bronze Award conferred for outstanding achievement in projects (Community Service) -- NUS-PSE Smile Village Playground and Childcare project. Mentored by Dr. Tan Beng Kiang and Dr. Junko Tamura, the team put their design skills to good use during the university vacation in May/June 2015 to design & build a playground and a learning aid wall for the underprivileged children in Smile Village, Cambodia. The playground develops the gross motor skills of the children and is also a favourite social gathering place for the villagers. NUS President, Professor Tan Chor Chuan, conferred the awards at the Awards Ceremony on 29th January 2016 at the University Cultural Centre. In total 67 nominations were received under the Projects (Community Service) category.

Congratulations to our students from National University of Singapore, Department of Architecture for clinching the top three prizes at the Design Ideas Competition 2015 organized by JTC Corporation. Envisioning the future possibility for a local retail start up scene in Singapore, the competition challenged architecture students to envisage a whole new exciting retail concept and redefine shopping experiences.
Han Rui, third year student, championed the competition with her winning proposal “Rainy Field”. Also in his third year, David Ardiansyah won the second prize. The team with three second year students, Holmberg Dennis Thanh, Ashley Lim Ruiqi and Yang Wei Chuan, took the third place.
