[ November 2017 ]


Chua Foong Nian Conan (BA (Arch) Year 4 student) was awarded second prize from a field of 17 Asian students in the 6th Asian Contest for Architectural Rookie's Award (ACARA) held in Bangkok for his Year 3 project “The Projector” .




NUS MLA students won many prizes in different categories of the SILA Student Awards 2017. Congratulates all individual students and the winning team!


A team of Master of Arts (Urban Design)  students (Karan Arora, Aarzoo Samani, Himanshu Sonawat, Xiong Manchen) was awarded the Bronze Award at the 5th SIP Planning Award 2017 for their project titled “UrbanEx-Waterfront City: Redevelopment, Continuity & Sustainability. Singapore”




Jury Citation: The strategies to knit together spaces through enhanced walkability, activity nodes, and a green loop are strong planning concepts that are well applied to this area. Modular buildings, an agro-tech park, and multi-leveled public spaces bring a level of dynamism and interest to the space.

Zhang Jingyuan, PhD candidate in DOA, has won the Singapore's Esri Young Scholar Award 2017. Jingyuan won with her entries: (1) Using GIS to evaluate accessibility and equity of parks in compact cities: a case study in Singapore, and (2) Research on urban walkability assessment and its applications: a case study in Futian District, Shenzhen, China. ESRI gave this assessment: "Our panel of judges - which consisted of industry practitioners form both commercial and government organisations - have found your research quite compelling and showed best practice use of GIS technology to address real-world challenges".

Jingyuan is invited to attend the ESRI User Conference in San Diego to receive the award from the founder and president ESRI. This is the second time DOA’s PhD student has won the award. The award was won by Dr. Rahim Abdul Rahman in 2014, who was then also a PhD student in the dept.

Jason Tan (supervisor Assoc. Professor Erik Gerard L’ Heureux) has won the best graduate thesis award at the Archiprix International 2017.

From the 385 graduation projects designed by 469 young architects, landscape architects and urban designers that were submitted for the Archiprix International Ahmedabad 2017, an international jury nominated 23 projects for the 2017 Hunter Douglas Archiprix Awards.

Out of these nominees, 8 winners were selected and announced at the award ceremony on Friday 10 February on the campus of CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India.

15 architecture students from Year 2 to Year 4, won the NUS 12th Student Achievement Awards 2017, Community Service (Silver Award) on 17th Feb 2017. The ceremony was held at the University Cultural Centre. There were over 40 nominations in their category. They were mentored by Dr. Tan Beng Kiang and Dr. Abel Tablada.

Ten Xiang Ling Shaunice (M.Arch Alumni) is awarded Special Mention for the Jacques Rougerie Foundation - Institut de France 2016 International Competition in Architecture (Category: the Innovation and Architecture Foundation Award for the Sea)
