| Theme and Sub-themes |
GASS 2006 will focus on the theme of ‘Reclaiming the City'. Asian cities have been rapidly transforming for the past few decades. Some public spaces and urban streets are losing their vitality as they are transformed according to the dictates of the global economy. Urban projects that were once symbols of economic growth, which stressed efficiency over the environment, are now run down relics of the past. Reshaping the built environment, reclaiming public spaces of our cities, and bringing vitality back to urban life are now the key challenges for urban professionals. Hence, GASS 2006 invites papers which address the theme of ‘Reclaiming the City' from the following perspectives:
|
| |
Research, academic framework, and theoretical insights on reclaiming the city, public spaces, urban streets, and urban infrastructure. |
| |
Built projects, case studies, practical methodology on urban revitalization. |
| |
Works that focus on urban sustainability, where new sensitivities to the design of public spaces contribute to a sustainable urban and social environment. |
| |
Works that focus on urban planning/management perspectives, community based activities and strategies, and other interdisciplinary issues. |
