Digital Space Lab Introduction

Architecture is ultimately about space, its organization and visual perception. The common design tools and representations of architecture however are still 2D and of static nature and this compromises the generation, evaluation and communication of design in space.

The Digital Space Lab aims to overcome this limitation, by enabling researcher to represent Architecture first of all un-coded, meaning in 3D perspective as a language that everybody is used to and understands.

Secondly the size and stereoscopic technology of the projection enables the user to view Architecture from within, judgment on scale, space and visual connections are possible. The immersive visualization of architecture can be augmented with interactive features which eventually establish a laboratory for architectural design studies, a lab of particular importance for teaching and learning by experimenting.

The projection is bright and of high resolution, as such judgments on light, color and texture become possible. The graphic system installed on the computers is fast, enabling a user to walk through a space in real-time, enabling him to judge on distances, views, circulation and security issues.

The Digital Space Lab provides software that allows the creation of rich 3D and interactive design content. For example pre-processed fluid dynamic data can be integrated to visualize the otherwise invisible heat and airflow.
