Prof Brookes is the author of several books on contemporary building construction techniques such as Concepts of Cladding (1985), Claddings of Buildings (1990), The Building Envelope (1990), Connections (1992) and AJ Focus series on Glazing and Curtain Walling (1992-94).  He has taught at Liverpool University, South Bank Polytechnic, Oxford Brookes University, Delft University of Technology and also practiced as an architect in his own practice Brookes Stacey Randall until his retirement recently.  

Prof Brookes has been appointed consultant on glazing and cladding to various projects including Heathrow Terminal Four, Gatwick Airport, Melbourne Tennis Club, Lutyens House, London.  He was specialist consultant for the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (Singapore), Federation Square (Melbourne), Midland Bank First Centre (UK) and Martin Dawes Building (UK).
