Jon Tyrrell Lang has been Professor of Architecture at the University of New South Wales since 1990. His prior appointment was at the University of Pennsylvania where he headed the Urban Design Program during the 1980s. He has lectured widely on urban design and is anxious that people see such work in its socio-political context.

He is author of Urban Design: The American Experience (1974) and books on architectural theory and architecture in India .  He is working on a book titled The Nature of Urban Design and Urban Designing: Defining the Field through Case Studies.
