A Century of
Finnish architecture
Jarno PELTONEN
is presently the Chairman of the
Board, The Marie-Louise and Gunnar Didrichsen Art Foundation, Finland.
His brings with him a wealth of knowledge in Finnish art and
architecture, from appointments as Director for International Activities Museum of
Art and Design 1999-2001, Museum Director Musuem of Art and Design,
Helsinki 1978-1999 , Museum Director Helsinki City Museum (Urban
history) 1970-78.
The
guest lecture is a retrospective tracing of the socio-geographic
conditions that shaped the development of Finnish architectural practice
from a tradition of engaging nature to modern interpretations in
context. Featuring works that have become representative of Finnish
Architecture, the lecture traces the thoughts of the exponents that were
most influential in the contextualisation of modern architecture to a
coherent body of work that can be identifiable as distinctly Finnish –
Deliberated gestures with the most respect for Nature; in the works of
Eliel Saarinen, Alvar Aalto, Viljo Revell, Juha Leiviskä, Pekka Helin.
