SANAA, an architecture partnership established by Kasuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa in 1995. It first came into very high prominence when it was awarded the Institute of Architecture Japan Prize in 1996 for the Multimedia Workshop Studio in Gifu Japan. This was followed by the First prize for the Museum of Contemporary Art Extension in Sydney in 1997, shortlist of 5 in the New Campus Center for the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1998, First Prize in The Recuperation of  the Ancient Quarter of Salerno Italy International Competition in 1999, and First Prize for the New Museum of  Contemporary of Art International Invited Competition in New York in 2003.

SANAA has also figured prominently in exhibitions such as: Light Construction Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 1996, The Un-private House Exhibition also at the MOMA New York in 1999, Then La Biennale Di Venezia in 1996, 2000, and 2002. Solo exhibitions at the Architectural Association School of  Architecture in 1996, at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2000, At the Netherlands Institute of Architecture in 2000, The Ministerio de Fomento in Madrid Spain in 2001, at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2002, At Zumtobel Staff-Lichtforum in Vienna Austria in 2003, and at Zeche Zollverein, Essen, 
Germany in 2003.

SANAA has been a recipient of numerous awards for the exceptional quality of architecture they produce. It was the recipient of the Eric Schelling Architecture Prize from Kalsruhe Germany in 2000, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize from the American Academy of  Arts and Letters Award in 2002, and the Architectural Award for the Salzburg Vicenzo Scamozzi Prize in Austria in 2002. 

SANAA has also been active in architecture education. 
Kasuyo Sejima is a tenured Professor at Keio University and Ryue Nishizawa is a tenured Associate Professor at Yokohama National University.
