development which parallels the modernisation of Singapore.

In a recent move to expand beyond its
conventional role, the NUS Department of Architecture is
re-positioning itself to become a premier design academy for
design, research and teaching programs in architecture,
urban design and planning, landscape design, design
computing and industrial design. It also seeks to become a
centre of excellence for "New Asian Tropical Architecture"
by establishing leadership in formulating designs and
strategies which address the technologies, cultures,
traditions and aspirations of 'new Asia' with particular
reference to its tropical contexts |

dedicated and suitably qualified candidates who share in the

ASSOCIATE PROFESSORS &

contribute in teaching and research in at least one of

The appointee will
be involved in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, and
the supervision of higher degree candidates by research.
Appointees will be expected to undertake academic or design
research, and will also be required to undertake some
administrative or management assignment. |

Qualifications |
| |
|
The candidate must have preferably a PhD or equivalent and a
strong track record in design, research or teaching. |

Associate/Assistant Professor in Industrial Design |
| |
|
The Bachelor of Arts in
Industrial Design program was first offered in 1999. Hosted
by the Department of Architecture, the program is able to
rapidly advance its teaching pedagogy to establish itself as
a comprehensive and multi-faceted entity. With the support
of the Faculty of Engineering and School of Business, the
program is enhanced by the creative 3D design and
construction culture of architecture and industrial design,
the advanced materials, technologies and manufacturing
processes of engineering, and the entrepreneurial and
organizational tools of marketing and management.

Department invites suitably qualified candidates for two
available appointments. |

The
applicant should be a highly skilled industrial designer
with substantial professional and teaching experience, |
| 2>
The applicant should be highly skilled in design engineering
with current knowledge and experience in materials
technology, manufacturing processes and new product
development. |

|
The
faculty positions serve to strengthen research, design
development and teaching methods and theories related to
Industrial Design. |

|
Responsibilities: |
|
The
appointee/s will be involved in teaching at undergraduate
and/or graduate levels, including the supervision of higher
degree candidates by research. Appointee/s will be expected
to undertake academic and/or design research, and will also
be required to undertake some administrative or management
assignment. |

Qualifications: |
|
Candidates are normally expected to hold a PhD degree in
Industrial Design. However, candidates with a Masters degree
in Industrial Design with relevant experience and track
record in industry and/or teaching will also be considered. |
|
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching
experience and a strong track record in design research
and/or industrial practice. |
