Architecture
students did well in the Kings of Freedom Design Competition
when they won the top prize as well as another 4 of the 5 Merit
Awards given out. The competition was organized by Youth Empire
Pte Ltd which aimed to invite local architects, planners and
students to design a home for portions of the Berlin Wall which
would eventually be sited at Bedok Reservoir Park.

students won the Top Prize and the 2nd Runners Up Prize of the
top 3 prizes of the Green Thumb 08 – Green Roof@The Regent
Landscape Design Contest. The competition was opened to all
students in the landscape courses of Singapore educational
institutions.

| M.Arch student Yew
Wei Jun has been awarded Honorable Mention for her work in the
Seoul Design Olympiad 2008. Wei Jun's submission is titled
Inhabiting the Landscape. “Emergence, flow, diversity,
adaptation, unfolding, interaction” Cities are rapidly
intensifying, agriculture makes way for buildings. Is it
possible to urbanize yet preserve our landscapes? Can densely
populated buildings blend and exist harmoniously with
agriculture, biodiversity? This scheme aims to portray a
landscape which is habitable. Using landscape as an organizing
principle, the design responds to the flows of people,
vegetation and wind.

Industrial Design Master
student, Wei Hangshuai’s work “Secret of Light” won the first
prize of Zhenhai Cup: The 3rd International Industrial Design
Competition, Cultural and Daily necessities group.
Secret of Light
The theme this year was "Protection of Natural, Love Life". This
competition was endorsed by the ICSID, titled and hosted by
Zhenhai District People's Government of Ningbo City and
co-hosted by the committee of the Industrial Design Branch of
China Mechanics Engineering Society. This competition includes 3
main design categories: Cultural and daily necessities group,
Consumer Electronics Group and Reconstruction of the earthquake
relief products group. 1276 entries were received from China,
Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany and Singapore. The works will be
exhibited at the 2008
World
Industrial Design Fair Ningbo China from 20 to 24 September. |

Master student Wei Hangshuai's “Kitchen
Eco-System” won the Silver Award at the
2008 Creative Shunde International Industrial Design Awards
(China). His other work "Air-con Plus" also won the Bronze
Award in the same competition. 2310 entries were received this
year. The winning works will be shown at The 5th China
International Patent & Brand Expo & The 1st China (Shunde)
International Industrial Design Expo at Guangdong (China) on
September 19th till 21st, 2008.

| Industrial
Design student Cher Lijun's work “o’clock” has been shortlisted
in the Crystal Vision Design competition. The competition wasco-organized
by Designboom and Swarovski. 4074 creative individuals and
institutions from 92 countries have participated. Lijun's
design
drew inspiration from how a tree’s shadow changes throughout the
day and how that shadow pattern reflects, measures and
symbolizes time. More details

received more than 1600 entries. In addition, Industrial Design

have been selected as one of the two
2008 Essay Competition Second Prize Winners.
The
2008 BERKELEY PRIZE Essay Competition attracted
architecture students from 18 countries,
including Uruguay, the Philippines, Switzerland,
Nigeria, China and others. This year's Essay
Competition was an invitation to think about the
use of architectural competitions to foster the
study and implementation of the social art of
architecture. |

Industrial Design students Brian Law Chuan Chai
and Huang Xiao Nan has been selected as
Finalists in the
Fourth Next-Gen PC Design Competition,
organized by Microsoft and endorsed by the
Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA)
and the International Council of Societies of
Industrial Design (ICSID).
This year’s
competition issued an open call to entrants to
dream up futuristic PC designs that give a new
lease of life to people’s passions, such as
travelling, music or photography. Contestants
were challenged to come up with groundbreaking
designs, not only featuring eye-catching
aesthetics, but melding cutting-edge hardware
with the latest software toward empowering
people to follow their passions. The
competition fielded 120 submissions from 32
countries that were as diverse as the passions
they were aimed at empowering. |

honored the International Forum Design iF
Concept Award this year. A total of 2,100
entries from 37 different countries were
submitted this year. The IF award is one of the
most prestigious design awards (e.g. iF Award,
Red Dot Award, G-Mark Award and IDEA) recognized
by industries globally.

| 5 DTM students
won the top 7 prizes in this international
competition on sustainable design, held by
FuturArc, an international design journal. This
included the top master prize, top prizes for
two competition sites, and two citations. The
FuturArc Prize has been established by the BCI
Group of Companies through its FuturArc journal
to inspire architects and other building
professionals to draft innovative designs for
Green buildings on sites in Asia-Pacific. The
Competition format encourages participants to
work as integrated teams in producing holistic
Green building solutions.

India. The conference was hosted by Rizvi

been selected the first 30 of the “Best of 100”
which shared a total of 30,000 Euros in prize
monies. . A total of 2,100 entries from 37

Design final year students, Cheong Yiang Ling,
Cindy Liew, Lionel Wong and Joanne Lin entries
have been selected as Notable Entries in the
Greener Gadgets Design Competition 2008. The
Greener Gadgets Design Competition took place
during February 2008 as part of the Greener
Gadgets Conference in New York City. Core77
challenged the global design community to design
a "greener gadget"; to create innovative
solutions addressing the issues of energy,
carbon footprint, health and toxicity, new
materials, product lifecycle, and social
development.
