Dr Li Xiao Dong
won the
Highly Commended Work by The Architecture Review
plus Design (ar+d) Awards for Emerging
Architecture 2005 for his work on the Yuhu
Primary School and Community Centre, Lijiang,
Yunnan Province, China. The competition
attracted more than 700 entries from nearly 60
countries. It gave away prizes to three winners,
seven highly commended works, six commended
works and eight honorable mentions. |

the ARCASIA Gold Medal 2005 for the Yuhu Primary
School and Community Centre, Lijiang, Yunnan
Province, China. |

Dr Li Xiao
Dong was awarded UNESCO Heritage Awards Jury
Commendation for Innovation 2005 for the Yuhu
Primary School and Community Centre, Lijiang,
Yunnan Province, China. Two projects were
awarded the inaugural award for Innovation in
2005. The Jury Commendation recognizes
newly-built structures which demonstrate
outstanding standards for contemporaty
architectural design which are well integrated
into historic contexts. The inaugural Jury
Commendation has drawn 12 entries from six
countries. These include two religious
buildings, two institutions, one residential
building, five commercial properties, and two
urban interventions. |

Dr. Perry Yang was chief planner for the
team for Design Competition of Kaohsiung
National Stadium Park for 2009 World Game Site,
in association with MAA (Taipei), COX
(Australia), Peter Droege and 7 NUS alumni. The
team won the first prize. The competition was
organized by the Public Works Bureau, Kaohsiung
City Government, Taiwan. |

Prof Heng Chye Kiang and Mr Low Boon
Liang were consultants/collaborators to
Singapore Archiland International in their award
winning project of the International Urban
Design Competition for the Redevelopment of
French Heritage District, Haihe Area, Tianjin.
The French Heritage District is one of four
important European heritage and conservation
areas for which international competitions were
invited by the City of Tianjin. The 3 other
invited participants for this international
competition were Ubis (Australia), Beijing
Junlong Shidai Consultants with Tianjin Tianyou
Architects, and Tianjin Urban Planning & Design
Research Institute. |

Prof Heng Chye Kiang and Mr Low Boon
Liang were consultants/collaborators to
Singapore Archiland International in their award
winning project on Tianjin Xiao Bai Lou Plaza,
CBD. The jury’s citation and recommendation were
announced in January 05. The 3 other invited
participants for this international competition
were Tianjin Architectural Institute & 54F.A+1
(Architects and Engineers, Germany), Hong Kong
Xinye Architects (HK SAR), and Swedesign (
Sweden). The Xiao Bai Lou Plaza district is one
of the six areas in Tianjin for which
international urban design competitions were
invited by the City of Tianjin. |
