Overview

NUS Architecture is also supported by various endowments like the Ong Siew May Professorship in Architecture, Ong & Ong Travelling Fellowship, funding and support from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, Tun Tan Cheng Lock Scholarships for Asian Architectural and Urban Heritage, and Lee Kip Lin Research Funds for Architectural Research on Singapore.


 

Edward D’Silva Award

Eligibility
M.Arch Students reading Dissertation/ Design Thesis

Candidates with a dissertation topic and/or thesis site located overseas that requires an in-depth study of the country and/or selected site. The recipient will be sponsored to make an overseas trip to the destination related to his/her design thesis/dissertation.

Selection Criteria

  • Strength of Dissertation/Design Thesis Synopsis and proposed travel plan
  • Overall design and academic excellence

Applicants are required to make a presentation of their proposal to the selection committee.

Tun Tan Cheng Lock Scholarship in Architecture

Eligibility

Undergraduate and Post-graduate students of NUS

A maximum of 4 Scholarships will be awarded to students under any of the following categories each year:

  1. Up to two undergraduate students in their third/fourth year of study in the Department. The scholarship supports the undergraduates on projects that require travelling within Southeast Asia, preferably with a stint in Malacca and/or
  2. One graduate student in the Department working on a research project related or connected to design thesis, dissertation or similar academic exercises. The study should preferably focus on urban and architecture heritage.

Undergraduate and Post-graduate students in other accredited architectural programme (SEA preferred)

  1. Up to two undergraduate or graduate students in accredited architectural programmes of other universities, preferably in Southeast Asia. The area of study should be related to disciplines of the built environment, such as environmental design, landscape architecture, urban and architectural heritage & management, urban studies or urban planning.

Kumpulan Akitek Prize

Eligibility
Top 5% of the best students in design from the second to fourth year of study in the BA (Architecture) programme will be invited to form their own team, preferably drawn from each of the three years. This is to encourage the spirit of team-work and group learning. Winners of the prize must work together to develop a design-research undertaking.

Though the teams are given flexibility to explore thematic issues of the time and their interests, the following are highly encouraged:

  1. Ecological Design in the Tropics
  2. Cultural Continuity and traditional forms in the contemporary settings
  3. Design for Society
